The “Come Meet Your Army” tour at Fort Jackson invites locals to experience day-to-day operations at the military base. During the eight-hour tour, visitors will witness a graduation ceremony, learn to shoot a rifle on a simulator system, and eat lunch with soldiers. Guests can also use this time to ask questions about Fort Jackson and the Army.

The purpose of the event is to promote Basic Training Combat Awareness. “I would love for everyone in the state of South Carolina to come see their Army” said Fort Jackson commander, Brig. Gen. Milford H. Beagle Jr. He believes the “profession is based on trust with the public,” which is why those working at Fort Jackson want the public to know that there are no secrets behind the gates of the Columbia military base.

Anyone aged 13 and up are welcome to attend the tour, however those aged 13-16 must be accompanied by an adult. To enhance the experience, guests will have the opportunity to participate in outdoor and indoor training activities. Because these activities will be challenging, it is recommended that those on the tour wear comfortable, close-toed shoes.

Space is limited for the event, and reservations should be made by Sept. 18. For more information, visit https://go.usa.gov/xUzd3.
