Dutch Fork routs Spring Valley 63-0 in opener

During the preseason, Dutch Fork head football coach Tom Knotts questioned his team’s hunger to win a third consecutive Class 5A title.

After having to wait an extra week to open the season, the Silver Foxes showed an appetite for domination Friday against Spring Valley. They routed the Vikings 63-0 to claim their 13th consecutive overall victory.

Dutch Fork (1-0) amassed 563 total yards and forced three turnovers against Spring Valley. After quarterback Ty Olenchuk threw an interception on the game’s opening drive, he proceeded to lead the Silver Foxes on six straight scoring drives.

He put Dutch Fork on the board with a 21-yard one-handed touchdown catch by Jalin Hyatt and followed with a 4-yard touchdown run. In the second quarter, Ron Hoff scored from 10 yards and Olenchuk connected with Gage Zirke for a 10-yard touchdown with 13 seconds left in the first half. He finished with 245 passing yards on 15-23 passing. Zirke had six receptions for 114 yards and Hyatt had eight catches for 103 yards.

Midway in the third quarter, Hoff scored on an 11-yard run. With 4:51 left in the quarter, Olenchuk threw his third touchdown of the game on a 32-yard pass to Zirke.

Dutch Fork closed out the game with three rushing touchdowns – two by Jonathan Hall and one by backup quarterback Graeson Underwood.

Hall finished with 114 rushing yards

The Silver Foxes play host to town rival Irmo in Week 2.
