State museum inviting artists to submit work for 30th anniversary exhibit, cash prizes awarded

The South Carolina State Museum is now accepting entries from artists for its 30th Anniversary Juried Art Exhibition, opening November 3. Artists’ work will have the chance to be selected for the exhibit and win cash prizes up to $1,500.

The juried exhibition is open to residents of South Carolina who are 18 years old and older. Individual artists must submit their own work. Collectives and collaborative projects may not enter. Each artist may submit up to three works of art for consideration. Only original art that has not previously been exhibited at the museum will be accepted. Work must have been created by the artist within the past three years. Art mediums include but are not limited to painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, fiber art, sculpture, jewelry and ceramics.

Submission materials must be submitted via scmuseum.org by Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. A non-refundable entry fee of $30 per artist for up to three works of art submitted must be included upon submission of materials.

All entries will be judged by a panel of jurors made up of previous State Museum art curators. The prizes will be $1500 for first place/best in show, $1000 for second, $500 for third, and three honorable mention awards of $250 each.

There will also be a $250 People’s Choice Award selected by the public, and a Curator’s Choice Purchase Award, which will be purchased for inclusion in the museum’s permanent collection.
