Midlands man creates business out of garage, grows to 90-employee company

Tyler Robertson quit his full time job three-and-a-half years ago to begin a new endeavor. He had no idea that it would grow so quickly, and lead to Wednesday’s grand opening of his new 21,000-sq.-ft. location.

Robertson created Diesel Laptops, a company that sells diesel diagnostic tools for semi trucks, farm tractors, and other earth-moving equipment. “All this equipment now is based on computer systems that will tell you when it’s wrong. We have the information on how to fix the codes,” said Robertson.

He began the company based out of his garage. “I was literally at my dining room table and in my garage,” he said. “Then I went from garage to rental spot, to bigger rental spot, and bought a larger space, then ran out of room there.” That led him to his most recent relocation, from Lexington to Gilbert.

The new location is on a six-and-a-half acre plot, which Robertson said will give them the
opportunity to continue growing. Although the move was exciting, Robertson said he doesn’t see it as an ending point. “I still think we have a lot of growth ahead of us, but it’s one more step for us to keep going like it is,” he said. “We’re just growing so fast we’re just trying to keep up at this point. I think we have a lot more runway ahead of us.”

Diesel Laptops is located at 4335 Augusta Highway in Gilbert. Their information can also be found at diesellaptops.com.  According to Robertson, they are still hiring for multiple positions.
