Manhunt in progress near Chapin’s Spring Hill High School: UPDATED

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced around 11 a.m. Thursday, they are tracking a suspect in the Portrait Hill Drive area in Chapin, SC. The area is about half a mile away from Spring Hill High School.

According to the RCSD, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle connected to a string of car break-ins in the surrounding area. The suspects fled from the vehicle on foot. A perimeter was then set up. One suspect is in custody and it is believed that the second suspect is still within the perimeter.

UPDATE:  The RCSD announced there were more than 20 car break-ins deputies responded to in the area within a 24-hour period.  The man they apprehended early Thursday morning is Junior Jacinthe, 21.  He was apprehended near the incident location.  The other man still remains at large.

Jacinthe is facing multiple charges in Richland County but may also be connected to other crimes in Lexington, Chapin and Irmo, according to the department.  The investigation is still on-going.
