The Peanut Man will soon be opening its newest location on Fernandina Road in Columbia, and this store will offer more than their usual sweet treats. The new location will also include a chocolate factory, coffee shop, cafe, and bakery. The nearly 10,000 sq. ft. store provides a rustic, relaxed feel with its high rise ceiling, stone fireplace, and wooden finishings. Owners Chris and Carrie Hinely placed tables in the center of the store around the fireplace, anticipating that customers may want to sit and stay for awhile.

The Fernandina Road Peanut Man will also be the first location to provide breakfast and lunch entrees. The Hinelys said they’ll have sandwiches, salads, muffins, scones, coffee, and a dessert assortment.

“We’re going to have more of an atmosphere where people can come and gather,” Chris said. “They can watch the chocolate being made in the factory, and we have two party rooms.” Carrie added that the party rooms can be utilized for baby showers, birthday parties, or corporate events.

Both Chris and Carrie said they never suspected a side business they began during the recession would end up becoming their full time careers. “Back in the recession in 2008 we both lost our jobs and we started selling peanuts around Columbia,” Chris said. “It’s just how business works, you start something and you find a need. There wasn’t a real candy store in Columbia.” Their newest venture will now be the fourth Peanut Man location.

Peanut Man customers can still expect to see the usual confections sold in their new store. “We’ll have the full retail store,” said Carrie. “Then we’ll have the cafe with the espressos, coffees, desserts, salads and sandwiches, the private rooms, and the chocolate factory around the corner.”

The Hinelys are waiting on the final DHEC inspection before they can officially open.  However, they said it should be open by mid-July. Other Peanut Man stores are located in Sandhills, Ballentine, and Columbia’s Vista.
