Freddy’s Steakburgers in Irmo planning to open next month

Anyone driving down Broad River Road through the Ballentine area over the past few months probably noticed a new building with an unfamiliar name.

Freddy’s Steakburgers, at 10611 Broad River Road (across from San Jose) will be opening the fist week of July, according to a Freddy’s representative from the Columbia location.

It will be the third Freddy’s in the Midlands.  The first opened on Killian Road in Columbia, and the second on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia last year.

Freddy’s offers a hospitable, “mom and pop” store feel, and specializes in burgers, made from lean-ground steak trimmings. Each one comes in a small puck, and is hand-smashed on the grill, resulting in a thin and crispy edge of the patty.

The other unique item Freddy’s focuses on is dessert custard.  The West Columbia Freddy’s manager described it as something that’s even better than ice cream.  The custard is made without any air crystals, which makes it more dense and rich.

Freddy’s also offers a signature “famous fry sauce” that comes in regular or spicy.  The sauce is available for free inside the restaurant and to-go.  Bottles of the sauce are available for purchase.
