Arthur Buist Langley II

Arthur Buist Langley II, husband of Janet Eaddy Langley, passed away on May 24, 2018 at home in Columbia, SC. Born in Charleston, SC, on April 12, 1927, he was the son of Claudia Seabrook Langley and Arthur Fernando Langley. He attended Columbia city schools and the Citadel in Charleston, SC . He and his class left the Citadel to enlist in the military to serve in WWII then graduated in 1949. He began his career at Carolina Life Insurance Company. He later owned and operated the West Columbia Sports Shop, finishing his career in insurance. He was a member of Trinity Cathedral, Forest Lake Club and a distinguished Eagle Scout. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and being on the water, created through his time spent at Wadmalaw Island, the home of his mother’s family. His greatest joy was his wife and family. As Janet’s husband he made it his mission to make her happy and as a result became an honorary member of the Altar Guild, Hood Street School, and the weekly card group’s vacation trips. He was known for his happy and unflappable demeanor and was an excellent dancer.

He is survived by his son, Arthur Buist “Hank” Langley III (Hart) and their children, Anne, Allie and Elizabeth; his daughter, Janie Elizabeth Langley; and daughter, Claudia Langley Fortner (Marvin) and their children, Brook, Campbell and Janie, all of Columbia, SC; sister, Claudia Langley Sacellary of Charlottesville, VA; sister-in-law, Mrs. James Clark Seabrook (Donna) Langley, of Lake Murray, SC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Janet Eaddy Langley; and a brother, James Clark Seabrook Langley.

Services will be held 11 o’clock, Wednesday, May 30th at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia. The family will greet friends following the service in the Parish Hall and from 5 until 7 o’clock, Tuesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
