Richland County will pay more than $1 million to former county administrator Gerald Seals, who was fired by Richland County Council.

Council members, with a 5-4 vote Monday, approved the settlement payment to Seals.
The settlement was approved, reportedly, to protect the county and council members from possible lawsuits initiated by Seals.

Seals gets $800,000 in a cash payment, in addition to one year’s salary of $184,000. Seals will also get six months’ health insurance coverage.
