Ted Stambolitis resigns from Lexington Town Council

Ted Stambolitis

Mayor Steve MacDougall has accepted the resignation of Councilman Ted Stambolitis effective Wednesday (Feb. 28.)

Stambolitis no longer meets the eligibility requirements of a qualified elector set forth in the Town of Lexington Ordinance 34.37. Stambolitis is a local businessman who has served on Town Council since 2004.

According to town ordinance, a qualified elector “must be a resident of the municipality” and “must be registered by the County Registration and Elections Commission and possess a valid voter registration certificate issued by the Commission at least 30 days prior to the election.”

A special election will take place to fill the seat. Full details will be announced once coordinated with the Lexington County Registration and Elections Office.
