Imogen Bradin Broadwater
She accompanied her mother and brother to Germany in 1946 among the first military dependents after WWII where she met her future husband. They were married in Berlin in one of the three undamaged churches in the city. In addition to rearing five children, she taught kindergarten at St Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church and had a small antique business in Columbia. The family had two additional tours of duty in Germany, and duty in Washington, DC, Fort Benning, GA, Fort Belvoir, VA, and West Point, MS.
Survivors include her children, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Colby M. Broadwater, III, (Jane) of Charleston, Judith K. Phipps (Donny) of West Columbia, Benjamin Bradin Broadwater (Diana) of Fort Worth, Imogen B. Sanders (Jerry) of Columbia, Nancy Ann Broadwater of West Columbia; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and brother, Col. (Ret.) James Watson Bradin VI of Beaufort, who now resides in Florida.
A funeral service will be held 11 o’clock, Tuesday, February 27th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia with The Rev. William M. Brock officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in Florence National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American College of the Building Arts, 649 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
