Woman involved in hit-and-run moped collision has died

The female involved in a moped accident on Thursday, has died as a result of her injuries, according to a Columbia Police Department report. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts is expected to  announce the name of the woman, Saturday.

Officers with the Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit are investigating a life-threatening hit and run incident involving a moped.

Two passengers (54-year-old male and 58-year-old female) were hit from behind by a vehicle, possibly a dark GMC Yukon shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 3400 block of Two Notch Road.

The suspect driver and/or passengers did not stop or render aid to the victims.

After the initial collision, which caused both victims to be ejected from the moped, another vehicle, possibly a silver older model Oldsmobile ran over the female, causing life-threatening injuries. The vehicle then left the scene. This vehicle may be missing front hubcaps.
