Lexington County coroner identifies woman killed in I-77 crash
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a vehicle accident, Thursday night. The collision occurred on Interstate 77 Southbound at approximately 10:20 p.m., at exit 1
According to Fisher, Lisa Marie Hough, 40, of Wedgefield, was killed after her vehicle struck a vehicle in the northbound lane, and veered into the southbound lanes where it collided head-on with another vehicle.
Hough, was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred, said Fisher. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries she sustained in the crash.
The Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to the I-77 exit ramp at Charleston Hwy/Fish Hatchery Rd. for a report of a major multi-vehicle traffic collision with entrapment, according to Cayce Spokeswoman Ashley Hunter. Upon arrival it was discovered that a 2009 Nissan made a left turn from Charleston Hwy onto the I-77 exit ramp going in the wrong direction. The Nissan hit a Chevrolet SUV at the intersection and fled the scene of that collision at a high rate of speed and continued to go the wrong direction on the I-77 exit ramp. The Nissan then struck a 2012 Dodge 4500 truck almost head on, disabling both vehicles.
Officers and EMS personnel determined that the driver of the Nissan had been fatality injured in the collision. No other persons were injured in this incident.
The SC Highway Patrol, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.
