Gamecock women get win over Alabama

The South Carolina women’s basketball team defeated Alabama 79-66, Thursday night.

The Gamecocks (19-5, 8-3 SEC) shot 67 percent in the first half to build a 15-point lead. The win over the Crimson Tide (14-10, 4-7 SEC) was much-needed.  The Gamecocks were coming off losses to the nation’s top two teams, No. 1 UConn and No. 2 Mississippi State.

USC  fell behind by seven points in the first quarter before starting a 20-2 run.  South Carolina scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to lead by 19 points. Alabama made four straight shots and cut the lead to 71-63, but the Tide couldn’t get any closer.

South Carolina is back in action this weekend, hosting Florida on Sunday. Tipoff from Colonial Life Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and the game will air on SEC Network.
