Gerald “Jerry” Hanley

Gerald “Jerry” Hanley, beloved husband, father and grandfather went to God’s everlasting kingdom on Friday Feb. 3, 2018. Born May 14th, 1930 in Liverpool, England, Jerry was known for caring for others, always ready with a joke and a quick mind. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother, Emily Harvey Hanley and father, Gerald Patrick Hanley.

Jerry was in the Royal British Air Force before joining the U.S. Army where he served 22 years in various European countries. Along with being in the service, Jerry was an excellent entertainer. After leaving the service he was employed at the V.A. Hospital in Columbia, SC. He then volunteered at Palmetto Health Richland Medical Center with the Mended Hearts, Chapter 71 for 28 years.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria Angfang Hanley; daughter, Debi (Stacy) Hanley Bodie; son, Mike (Connee) Hanley; grandsons, Corey Hanley and Ryan Bodie; and also great granddaughters, Maddie Hanley and Alexandria Bodie.

A gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 8th at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Friday, February 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC, 29209. Mr. Hanley will be buried immediately following his funeral celebration at Greenlawn Memorial Park where full military honors will be performed to honor his many years of service.

Jerry will be greatly missed.
