Carolina Panthers owner says he’ll sell team, after NFL misconduct investigation announced
Carolina Panthers founder and owner Jerry Richardson said Sunday, he will sell the team. Richardson’s announcement came a few hours after the NFL announced the investigation of the claims of workplace misconduct made against Richardson.
“I believe it is time to turn the franchise over to new ownership,” Richardson wrote. “We will not begin the sale process, nor will we entertain any inquiries, until the very last game is played. I hope everyone in this organization, both on and off the field, will be firmly focused on just one mission: to play and win the Super Bowl.”
In the statement Richardson released just before 8 p.m. Sunday, he did not mention the pending investigation.
A Sports Illustrated report said there are allegations of sexual and racial misconduct by Richardson toward former Panthers employees.
Richardson said the team will be put up for sale at the end of the season.
