Columbia Police make arrest in alleged shooting that resulted in fatal collision

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have arrested a 19-year-old male accused of shooting at a vehicle and causing a collision that killed an Eau Claire High School student last month.

Rayquawn Tyrese Walker was arrested early this morning and charged with Murder, Three Counts of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

Walker is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC), accused of firing multiple shots at the victim’s vehicle causing it to crash at the 5600 block of Farrow Road on November 21, 2017.

An autopsy conducted by the Richland County Coroner’s Office has indicated that Cameron Scott (DOB: 7-17-2000) died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the collision.

Three other males who were with Scott at the time of the collision are expected to recover from their injuries.

Scott’s mother Carolyn Scott held a funeral for her only son on Saturday. They moved to Columbia last year to escape the violence in their hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

“I thought his chances would be better here. He had options and now he doesn’t I can now only speak on my son’s behalf”, Carolyn Scott says.

CPD Investigators continue to work leads regarding the motive for the shooting.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
