Marriott hotel in Cayce has spring opening date

A landmark property is scheduled to open in Cayce in late spring.

Last March, ground was broken for the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel.

“We expect it to be completed by late spring, and open in May at the latest,” said Kristen Myers. She’s the Florence-based development coordinator for SpringBridge Development and Raines Hospitality, builders and management company for the hotel, respectively.

Myers said the weather, specifically the rain, has been an obstacle at times, but the hotel construction crew has compensated for lost time.

The drywall is finished and furniture will be delivered in a couple of months. Myers also said a general manager has been hired and more hiring for hotel staff will begin soon.

The hotel is being built on Fort Congaree Trail, off of 12th Street Extension, adjacent to the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. It will feature 100 rooms, a bistro with a full service bar, and 683 square feet of much-needed meeting space.

The facility also will have an indoor pool, a fitness room, a business center, a market pantry, a guest laundry room, and an outdoor patio with a fire pit and a grill.

“It’s a welcome addition,” said Gregg Pinner, president and CEO of the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

He said it is a “great location” and the hotel will be advantageous for the tennis center and corporations in the area, including SCANA, Nephron Pharmaceuticals, and Amazon.

“It’s a prime example of the growth along 12th Street Extension,” Pinner said.

The hotel sits in front of the 299-unit Otarre Pointe Apartments complex. Lexington Medical Center has a facility off of 12th Street Extension, too.

Myers said she would not be surprised to see more development in the area soon.

SCANA Corp. owns a majority of the land in the area, and is currently working on securing more development projects for the area.
