Snowball Festival weekend kicks off Christmas in Lexington

Baby, it’s … NOT cold outside.

Still, despite the lack of holiday chill, folks in the Midlands can nonetheless get their fill of Christmas cheer when the Town of Lexington’s annual Snowball Festival kicks off its three-day run this Friday evening downtown.

Here’s the lineup and what you need to know if you plan to attend.

Friday, December 2:

Concert and Carnival in the Square
6 p.m – 8 p.m.
Tree Lighting at 8 p.m.
Lexington Square Park (Corner of E. Main Street and S. Lake Drive)

There will be no road closures or detours during this event. Police officers will be at Lake Drive and Main Street to assist attendees crossing the street to access the event at Lexington Square Park.

Saturday, December 3:

PattyPacks Warm a Heart 5K Race and 10K Race 
Lexington Municipal Complex

Race times
7:30 a.m. – 10K
7:40 a.m. – 5K

These races will begin at the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex at 111 Maiden Lane and there will be a series of road closures and detours in the area of South Lake Drive, Gibson Road, Pond View Lane, Satcher Road, Barr Road, Hendrix Street, Gibson Road, South Church Street, Third Avenue, and West Main Street.

Road closures will only last while runners are on the roadway and every attempt is made to keep a roadway open with access to clearly marked detours during the event, police said.

Road closures and detours will begin at 7 a.m. and should end before 11 a.m.

Movies in the Square

5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W. Main St.)
Mickey’s Christmas Carol (26 min.)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (26 min.)

There will be no road closures or detours during this event. Officers will be at the corner of Maiden Lane and South Church Street to assist those crossing the street to attend the event at the Icehouse Amphitheater.

Sunday, December 4:

Christmas Parade
3:30 p.m. – Main Street

“Songs of the Season Concert” will follow immediately after the parade at the Icehouse Amphitheater.

The annual parade will use the route of Haywood Avenue to West Main Street to North Lake Drive to West Butler Street.

Roadways on the parade route along with several driveways off West Main Street and Columbia Avenue may be closed prior to the parade for Christmas float setup and parade preparation. These closures may start as early as 2 p.m.

West Main Street, from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive, will close at 3:15 p.m., with the parade beginning at 3:30 p.m.

It is advised that attendees please arrive early to find a parking space and seating along the parade route as this parade as this should be a well attended event.

After the Christmas Parade has ended, road closures on West Main Street and North Lake Drive will remain in effect for approximately one hour.

Those who are parked in parking lots along the parade route will be directed back to West Main Street and Columbia Avenue to exit the area.

Snowball Festival Events Parking:

Parking will be available at the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex, Lexington County Courthouse, Lexington County Administration Building, and there will be street parking available along Main Street during all events except the Christmas Parade.

Those who park in private parking lot areas may take the risk of being towed.
