Suspected Florida fugitive apprehended in Lexington County
After years on the run and living under an alias, a Florida fugitive is behind bars after his arrest Monday night, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
“Jose Antonio Gonzales had assumed a number of different identities while he was on the run,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said Tuesday. “He’s been living in West Columbia as Hector Acosta for about two years.”
Gonzales, 58, was arrested with assistance from State Law Enforcement Division agents Monday night along Bush River Road shortly after detectives received a Crimestoppers tip from the community, Koon said.
Gonzales was wanted for violating conditions of his parole from a Florida prison seven years ago.
He is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center while he awaits full extradition to Florida.
