After nearly a year of construction, Richland Library North Main is prepared to reopen its doors, marking the first completed system-wide building project.

NMainLibrary2Library staff members on Thursday will start unveiling the newly renovated and reconfigured location at 5306 North Main St., featuring enhanced spaces.

A new networking center will allow library patrons to participate in a professional webinar or virtual interview or meet one-on-one with a community partner.

Staff hope the revamped children’s room will inspire lifelong learning and get kids ready for kindergarten. It includes a tutoring space available for one-on-one or group sessions.

NMainLibrary1A “pop-up space” is available to display a latest invention, art work or great idea here, and the courtyard offers a place to take in some fresh air and community-inspired artwork.

Also among the new spaces is a recording studio, where guests can book a session to record their next hit using state-of-the-art audio editing equipment and software.

The upgrades are part of a nearly $3 million project that was planned for the North Main location, made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum in 2013.
