There are 44 days until Gamecock football season, but fans can get their football fix a little earlier this year at Richland Library.

Richland Library is teaming with the Gamecocks next week at the Drew Wellness Center, 2101 Walker Solomon Way, in Columbia for Pigskin Poets. The annual summer reading event is returning for its 20th year as part of Richland Library’s Summer Learning Challenge. Organizers say Pigskin Poets reinforces the importance of setting and reaching goals in an effort to help reduce the effects of summer learning loss.

Fans are encouraged to don their garnet and black gear from 3 to 4:30 p.m. July 29 and join student athletes from the University of South Carolina’s football team and cheerleading squad and, of course, Cocky for an afternoon of stories, games and autographs.

Anyone with questions about the event may contact Emily Stoll at (803) 587-3637 or estoll@richlandlibrary.com.
