Nick Jones to head wrestling program at Ridge View High

A former assistant coach at Airport High School has been named the new head wrestling coach at Columbia’s Ridge View High School.

Nick Jones takes over the Blazer wrestling program from Marlin Taylor. Taylor left Ridge View to pursue other coaching opportunities, said Blazer Athletic Director Brian Rosefield.

Jones comes to Ridge View after being involved in the local wrestling community for more than 14 years. He began his wrestling career while a junior year at Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville. Since then, he has remained involved in the sport by competing, volunteering, coaching and officiating.

During his three years as an assistant coach at Airport High in West Columbia, Jones helped guide the Eagles to a record of 51-13.

In addition to coaching the Blazer wrestling team, Jones will teach physical education classes.

“I am very excited about the challenge that developing the wrestling program here at Ridge View presents,” he said. “I am grateful to the administration here at Ridge View for the opportunity to work with these students and help them achieve their goals.”
