Sneak preview of Cola Ballet’s ‘Peter Pan’ Sunday at Richland Library

The Columbia City Ballet’s performance of “Peter Pan” takes flight next week. But for a sneak peak of the show, head to the Richland Library on Sunday.

A free preview version of the ballet’s performance of the J.M. Barrie classic will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Children’s Room of the library.

Clo Cammarata, manager of Richland Library Programs and Partnerships, said the “Peter Pan” preview is another in a series of collaborative productions between the library and the ballet company. Past performances have included “Alice in Wonderland,” “Cinderella” and “The Little Prince.”

“Columbia City Ballet and Richland Library want to bring programming to audiences that may not otherwise see a ballet performance,” Cammarata said. “Together we showcase ballets that are adaptations of children’s books, bringing dance and literature to the community.”

These performances help bring to life many of the characters found in the library’s children’s books collection, she said, adding that the ballet performers often interact with children and their families after the preview shows, including having photos taken.

“It is a time for children and families to view a ballet performance up close.  We place quilts on the floor for children so they have a front-row view,” Cammarata said. “It is fun to see the number of children that come in costume to performances. Last year we saw many a prince and princess for “Cinderella.” This is an amazing event that brings smiles to the faces of children.”

For its full production of “Peter Pan,” the Columbia City Ballet will offer a 15-percent discount to anyone with a Richland Library card.

Full performances for Peter Pan at the Koger Center for the Arts are Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased via his link.
