William Gerald Van Cooper, 55, USC, Midlands Technical College graduate
William Gerald Van Cooper, of Columbia, died Oct. 28, 2015, at the age of 55.
Son of Farritha E. Cooper and the late Rev. C.C. Dixon, he was born March 26, 1960, in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a 1978 graduate of Hemingway High School. William went on to graduate from Midlands Technical College and the University of South Carolina.
He enjoyed being with family and traveling to Paris, France and Athens, Greece. He was a big Dallas Cowboys fan and loved music!
He is survived by his wife, Shurn Sanders Cooper; a son, Nicholas Van Cooper; mother, Farritha E. Cooper; siblings, Ivory Gene (Karen) Cooper, of Washington, D.C., Darlene (Frank) Burgess, of Raleigh, North Carolina, James A. (Patricia) Cooper, of Augusta, Georgia, Joandra Cooper, of Irmo and the Rev. Vernon (Gail) Dixon, Debra Dixon, Joyce (Wayne) Daniels, Chris Dixon and the Rev. Karlton (Lisa) Dixon, all of Columbia; stepmother, Leila Dixon, of Columbia; father-in-law, Carnell Sanders Sr., of Ware Shoals; in-laws, Carnell (Kate) Sanders Jr., of Ware Shoals, Diane (Franklin) Smith, of Dubai, Bryant (Lorene) Sanders, of Rock Hill, Reginald (Patricia) Sanders, of Long Island, New York, Sherard Sanders, of Tampa, Florida and Lynn (Robert) Prince, of Narita, Tokyo, Japan; goddaughters, Olivia Begg, of Hartford, Connecticut and Nasha Gary, of Columbia; and many cousins, other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his son, Justen Gerald Cooper; his father, the Rev. C.C. Dixon; brother, Reginald Brian Cooper; paternal grandparents, Frank Cooper and Rhodan P. Cooper; and his mother-in-law, Virginia H. Sanders.
