Man arrested after allegedly bringing concealed weapon to USC Law School
University of South Carolina Law School officials are adding a daytime security guard after a former student was arrested Thursday for allegedly bringing a concealed weapon into the building.
Craig Stanley, 30, faces a charge of breach of peace.
Law School Dean Robert Wilcox notified students of the Thursday arrest. Wilcox said Stanley came to the law school Wednesday and again Thursday and asked to see an associate dean.
The associate dean was unavailable Wednesday, but as Stanley left, a school employee noticed what appeared to be a hammer in Stanley’s pocket and notified campus police.
When Stanley returned Thursday, school officials immediately called police. Wilcox said he spoke with Stanley, who did not make any threats or display a weapon. Wilcox described him as calm.
Police arrived and spoke to Stanley and said they discovered a knife concealed on him. Details on how the knife was found have not been released.
