Amazon to add 500 full-time jobs at Lexington County fulfillment center

More jobs are coming to Lexington County, this time at an existing industry.

Amazon announced the addition of 500 full-time jobs at its fulfillment center in Cayce. The center has brought more than 1,500 jobs since it opened in 2011 and is hiring now to meet growing customer demand.

“For a company like Amazon to make the decision to expand its operations in South Carolina, it is a special source of pride and a reason to celebrate because it proves what we already know – that we have a world class work force and competitive business environment,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.

New hires will pick, pack and ship customer orders.

“Like the rest of the country, the Midlands community was also impacted by the recession, so it is wonderful to see major employers expanding their job force. Having Amazon in our backyard is a signal of great things for our local and national economy. It’s a win-win for everyone,” said Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall.

“Putting 500 more people to work is a benefit to the city of Cayce and all of the Midlands,” Cayce Mayor Elise Parton said. “We are excited for this continued growth in jobs and economic development.”

Employees will receive competitive wages and immediately will be eligible for comprehensive benefits that include health insurance, 401(k) with 50 percent match, bonuses and company stock awards. Amazon also offers full-time employees programs like Career Choice, in which the company will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
