BlueCross BlueShield, Lexington Medical Center reach agreement
Lexington Medical Center will remain a BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Preferred Blue provider.
BlueCross BlueShield announced Tuesday that it has reached a new contract with Lexington Medical Center and its doctors, replacing the one set to expire Feb. 28.
There will be no break in Lexington Medical Center’s network status, according to BlueCross BlueShield, and patients need not take any action and should not expect to see any changes. Services will continue to be covered at the in-network benefit levels set by each person’s health plan.
BlueCross BlueShield sent an email to its customers Tuesday saying, “We are very happy that LMC will remain an in-network provider. Together, we will also work to improve health care quality while also reducing health care costs.”
“Together, we agreed to work collaboratively to improve health care quality and patient outcomes while also reducing medical expenses,” the insurance provider and Lexington Medical Center said in a joint statement.
BlueCross’ statement last week said the company and hospital system hadn’t reached an agreement due to Lexington Medical “demanding excessive fee increases.” Hospital officials said Tuesday the new agreement “manages costs and maintains high-quality health care.”
