Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce reaches 1,000 members

Representing one of the state’s fastest-growing counties, the Greater Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center hit a major milestone this fall. Membership now includes more than 1,000 businesses and organizations representing everything from specialty boutiques to restaurants with locally sourced ingredients to hotels serving visitors to Lexington County.

Chamber officials said the membership total remained at about 800 until the early 2000s when it began to steadily climb.

“Our chamber has had the lofty goal of obtaining 1,000 members for over a decade. And now through years of hard work, we have reached our goal,” said president and CEO Randy Halfacre. “Having a membership of that size places our chamber in a select group of chambers throughout the country.”

Halfacre said the chamber’s still-growing membership allows for a “diverse base for networking and relationship building” for business owners.

The goal of reaching 1,000 members was met when Stephen Belec and Handyman Services joined the chamber this fall.

“It shows business in Lexington is growing,” Belec said when he heard the news.

Belec purchased the home remodel and repair business about five years ago. He and his staff often aid senior citizens living in the area with small projects in addition to completing major renovations for local homeowners. Belec joined the chamber around the one-year anniversary of his shop relocating to Lexington’s Main Street.

“As a small business owner, it’s important to be connected with the community that you are serving,” he said. “It’s a win-win for everyone who joins.”

Membership Investment and Relations Manager Haylee Anderson said the Chamber staff won’t let hitting the 1,000-member milestone distract from the overarching goal of being there for each individual member.

“It’s not just about a number. It’s about helping our small businesses,” she said. “I hope it says to our businesses that their voice is being heard, that we do work hard for them.”
