Swamp Cabbage Brewing Co., which recently launched its line of drinks, opened its 921 Brookwood Drive brewery Sunday for public visits, tours and tastings; and more than 800 people came to check out the grand opening, which included live music and food from local food trucks like the Wurst Wagen.

Swamp Cabbage is owned and operated by brothers Doug and Ed Boyd. Sunday’s big opening required some extra help, of course, and Ed and Doug knew where to look for recruits.

“Most of it’s family,” Ed said as he looked at the various staff helping customers.

The brewery will be open on a regular basis with hours still to be determined. The hours will be extended for big events, including the University of South Carolina’s first football game of the year  Aug. 28. when Swamp Cabbage will open at noon.

“It all depends on what kind of crowd we get,” Doug said.

More information on the new brewery is available on the Swamp Cabbage Facebook page.
