Todd & Moore celebrate 70th anniversary

A Columbia business that first opened its doors during World War II will celebrate its 70th anniversary Thursday.

todd and moore anniversaryTodd & Moore Sporting Goods has been locally owned and operated since it first opened as Todd’s Sporting Goods on South Main Street in 1944.

Thursday’s celebration will be an all-day event at the 620 Huger St. store with special sales and giveaways from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The Huger Street store opened in 1969 when the business relocated from 707 Main St.

The first 100 customers Thursday will receive a free commemorative t-shirt, and a special ceremony at noon will honor Jim Moore, who is retiring after 55 years at Todd & Moore. Numerous special guests are expected to appear at the ceremony.

Cromer’s, one of the few local businesses older than Todd & Moore, will provide refreshments for guests throughout the day.
