Ryan Finney named executive director of Jeep Rogers Family YMCA at Lake Carolina
The YMCA of Columbia Lake Carolina branch has a new executive director. Ryan Finney was appointed to oversee and direct the management team and 175 part-time employees at the Jeep Rogers Family YMCA at Lake Carolina off of Kelly Mill Road.
“I am excited to start my new position at the Jeep Rogers Family YMCA,” Finney said. “I am eager to help grow programs and opportunities for the branch. As someone who’s been working with various local Y associations for 14 years, the community really is like a family and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Finney is taking over the position from M.J. Peirce. Director of Marketing and Communications Megan Plott said Peirce, who had been the executive director of the Lake Carolina branch for four years, was promoted to Vice President of Healthy Living. Pierce will oversee all of the healthy living programs for YMCA Columbia.
Finney is a 14-year veteran of the YMCA organization, having worked in Y’s in Indiana, Ohio and South Carolina since 1999. Finney previously held positions of teen and family director, senior program director, associate executive director and executive director.
He most recently served as the executive director of the Caine Halter Family Branch of the YMCA of Greenville from 2008 to 2013.
YMCA of Columbia officials noted Finney’s experience in membership growth and retention, program innovation, annual campaign growth, fiscal management and facility improvement. In his new position, he will be charged with running the strategic and daily operations of the facility, programs and community outreach.
Finney graduated from Manchester University in 1998 with a degree in psychology.
The YMCA of Columbia has had a presence in the Midlands for over 200 years and was one of the first 50 Y’s in the nation. The nonprofit promotes the motto of “youth development, healthy living and social responsibility” and offers health and wellness classes and summer youth day camps in addition to sponsoring events like the Festival of Roses race to benefit its annual campaign fund.
