Women in Philanthropy to host Leadership Breakfast this Thursday

Residents are invited to reserve their seats for the Women in Philanthropy Leadership Breakfast set for Thursday. WIP is a partnership between United Way of the Midlands and Central Carolina Community Foundation and comprises female investors who aim to better the lives of area women and children through philanthropy and leadership.

Attendees at Thursday’s breakfast will learn about ongoing WIP projects and ways they can get involved in the future. Local women who have served as inspirational leaders in the community also will be recognized.

The morning’s guest speaker will be Siobhan “Sam” Bennett, president and CEO of Women’s Campaign Fund. The national organization seeks to place more women in elected office from school boards to City Council to Congress.

“We are thrilled to have Sam Bennett speak at this year’s Leadership Breakfast,” said Anita Garrett, Women in Philanthropy chair and management consultant. “WIP continues to grow each year, proving to us that local women are dedicated to creating long-term, positive change through collective giving and by advancing as servant leaders of this community. Sam Bennett speaks to that kind of leadership, and I know her message, that citizen involvement and engagement can lead to greater things for our community, is one that will resonate with the audience and inspire all who attend.”

People are asked to bring a gift for The Nurturing Center, a Columbia-based treatment and prevention center for child abuse and neglect. A list of needed items is available online and donations will go to support teens in the Center’s Teen Parenting Program.

Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. at The Palmetto Club on Sumter Street in Columbia. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online or by contacting Jane Quinn at 748-7287 or jquinn@uway.org.
