Carolina Reiki Institute hosting celebration of healing Saturday
Margaret Self gave her first session of Reiki therapy 20 years ago. Now, the owner of Carolina Reiki Institute is inviting people to learn more about the alternative healing method this weekend.
Carolina Reiki Institute will host a drop-in celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Self said she wanted to mark her anniversary as a Reiki practitioner with regular clients and people wanting to experience the unique therapy for the first time.
“It’s been 20 years since my first Reiki attunement and I have lots to share,” she said.
According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Reiki comes from an Eastern belief that the body has the power to heal itself. During a session, a practitioner places his or her hands lightly on or just above a person in order to expedite the person’s own healing response. Self said she has witnessed Reiki boost pain management, relieve stress and improve immune function, just to name a few benefits.
Self first opened Carolina Reiki Institute in 1998 in downtown Columbia. She since has set up shop inside of Belladonnas on St. Andrews Road.
In addition to offering Reiki sessions, Self trains others who wish to learn about the alternative method.
