A Georgia-based developer is planning to turn the site into a shopping center featuring Marshall’s, Michael’s, Petsmart and other stores.

The Fletcher Bright Co. announced the plan on its website and will call the new shopping center Rosewood Crossing. Space is planned for four businesses in addition to the three anchor stores.

The company said in a news release that with a “unique location of the development sitting at the intersection of several major roadways, the site has the benefit of a tremendous traffic volume of approximately 60,000 vehicles per day passing by.”

The Kmart on the site closed in 2012 after the chain filed for bankruptcy and shut down over 100 stores nationwide. John Baker of Columbia-based Baker & Baker Developers was the last listed owner of the shopping center. He did not return a call requesting comment on the new development.
