A school crossing guard on Tuesday alerted the deputy who serves as the school resource officer at Irmo Middle after several parents reported that they saw the man standing near the school with his shirt open and making inappropriate comments to several female students as they walked towards Quail Valley Plaza Shopping Center on Wescott Road.

Several female students told the school crossing guard that the man was trying to expose himself and that he appeared to be touching his genitals.

Witnesses said the man is about 6 feet tall and appears to be in his 20s. He’s thin and has dark hair and was wearing blue jeans, a loose-fitting white shirt and a blue-and-white baseball cap.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the incident or the man’s identity to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Information also can be reported anonymously by accessing the “Crime Tip” link on the Sheriff’s Department web site.
