Deputies: Man stole beer from delivery truck
A Gaston man is in jail after being accused of stealing two cases of beer from a delivery truck.
Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 40-year-old Richard Eugene Richards on Tuesday in connection with the theft of two cases of Coors Light from a beverage company truck on Sunset Boulevard near West Columbia.
Richards also was served with arrest warrants in connection with vehicle break-ins that occurred in parking areas at Lexington Medical Center on Sunset Boulevard near West Columbia.
Deputies said the delivery truck driver identified Richards as the man who lifted open a sliding door on the truck and stole the beer. Richards is accused of hiding the two cases behind a trash can and then trying to steal additional beverages from the delivery truck.
While searching Richards, deputies found several brass pipe fittings that Lexington Medical Center public safety officers determined had been stolen from Lexington Medical Center maintenance vehicles that were parked at the hospital on Sunset Boulevard.
