State’s unemployment rate hits record low in April

The unemployment rate in Richland County fell to 3.5 percent in April from 3.9 percent in March. In Lexington County, the unemployment rate fell to 3 percent from 3.4 percent in March. Coroner releases autopsy results in officer-involved shooting incident

According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, an autopsy performed on Wednesday revealed that John Bittle died as the result of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Bittle, 39, was the victim of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the 200 block of Seleta Circle, near Pond Branch Road. SLED is investigating the incident.

Lexington-based Prysmian gets $300 million deal with Verizon

Verizon Communications has awarded Prysmian Group a $300 million optical cable supply contract. Prysmian Group North America headquarters are in Lexington. The agreement supports Verizon’s U.S. network expansion around a next-generation fiber platform that will speed the implementation of 5G services.
