Richland County man arrested on child pornography charges

Gilbert Baco, 71, of Columbia has been arrested on twelve charges connected to the exploitation of a minor. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest Tuesday.

Baco was arrested Friday. He is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second degree, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count; and ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count.

Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) which led them to Baco. Investigators state Baco distributed and possessed files of child pornography.

Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest. Investigators with the Attorney General’s Office, also a member of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted with this investigation. The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.

Attorney General Wilson noted that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
