Richland County man accused of killing his son, 6 by child abuse
A Richland County man has been charged with assaulting and killing his six-year-old son.
Karlton Brabham Sr., 26, was arrested Monday by the Richland County Sheriff Department’s Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service on charges of homicide by child abuse.
According to the sheriff’s department, on February 5, Brabham brought his unresponsive son to a MedCare center on Two Notch Road. The boy was then rushed to Palmetto Health Richland where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators from the office of Richland County Coroner Gary Watts determined the child’s death was not accidental, and that it occurred at their home in Elgin. They believe Brabham assaulted the boy, causing a traumatic brain injury to the child.
