A’ja Wilson plays big in her final regular season home game, USC takes down No. 24 LSU
No. 7 South Carolina dropped No, 24 LSU 57-48, Thursday night. The Gamecocks got 27 points and a career-best 24 rebounds from A’ja Wilson, in her final regular season home game. LSU (18-8, 10-5 SEC) kept the score close for most of the game, but the Gamecocks (23-5, 12-3 SEC) never trailed.
The Tigers cut USC’s lead to a single possession, 30-28, in the third quarter, Wilson scored on three of the next four possessions – and had an assist on another. South Carolina went up 38-28 with Wilson’s effort.
Wilson, who grew up in Hopkins, took USC’s women’s program to its first national title and three SEC titles in her four years. The crowd chanted her name after coach Dawn Staley called a timeout to take her out of the game with 27.6 seconds left.
Alexis Jennings added 10 points for South Carolina. Raigyne Louis had 17 points and eight rebounds and Chole Jackson added 16 points for LSU
The Gamecocks close regular season play Sunday, facing No. 15 Tennessee. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. ET, and the game will air on ESPN2.
