Norbert Minold “Mike” Goeke

1SG Norbert Minold “Mike” Goeke, US Army (Ret.), 86, of Columbia, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Born December 6, 1931, in Manitowoc, WI, he was the last surviving child of the late Arthur and Hattie Vetter Goeke. 1SG Goeke retired from the US Army having served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. During his 23 year career he received a Purple Heart and a The Meritorious Service Medal. Following retirement he went on to work as a JROTC instructor at Camden High School where he received the Commanders Award for Public Service. He was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his nieces, Joyce Roberts (George) and Dottie Rich; nephew, Wayne Rofkom (Wilma); and brothers-in-law, Lavern and David Roberts. In addtition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margie Roberts Goeke; brothers, Leland Donald and Irving Goeke; sisters, Lucille Roskom and Adeline Suring.

A funeral service for 1SG Goeke will be held 1 o’clock, Monday, February 12th, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 605 Polo Road, Columbia, with The Rev. Fr. William M. Brock officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o’clock, Sunday at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia.
