Zaxby’s cancels plans to open location in Five Points
Zaxby’s has canceled plans to open a location in Five Points, in the former Harper’s Building. Plans were withdrawn in reaction to protests and a law suit from nearby businesses. According to a quote on the Twitter feed of “Drinking Ticket” the owners said Zaxby’s did not want to come where it was not wanted.
The Five Points Association issued the statement below in December:
The Five Points Association is opposed to the recent application made requesting a special exception for a fast food drive-thru (reported to be a Zaxby’s) in lower Five Points. This possibility will lead to a tipping point in the history of Five Points – a significant head nod to how Five Points will develop in the future.
A fast food drive-thru, and the traffic it creates, would have a major impact on the context and feel of this historic, neighborhood village. By introducing a fast food drive-thru in lower Five Points, Five Points would be moving away from the Future Five Master Plan and Design Overlay, which was endorsed and implemented by City Council in August 2006.
