Gamecock men upset Florida on the road
South Carolina upset No. 20 Florida by a score of 77-72, Wednesday night. Wesley Myers scored 22 points, his high for the season. Chris Silva had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for USC.
South Carolina (13-7 and 4-4 in the Southeastern Conference) hit 11 of 21 shots from beyond the 3-point line. That’s the most 3s all season. Myers was 5 of 7 in 3-pointers.
The Gators (14-6, 6-2 in the SEC) led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but Myers brought the Gamecocks back with the 3-ball and Silva was strong in the paint. Frank Booker was clutch too, hitting four free throws in the last 40 seconds of the game.
Egor Koulechov and Jalen Hudson led Florida with 16 points each and KeVaughn Allen had 15 for the Gators.
It is an NCAA Tournament-boosting victory on the road against a ranked team for USC. It was the team’s first road victory against a ranked team since February of 2016. The Gamecocks upset Kentucky in Columbia on Jan. 16.
South Carolina returns to Colonial Life Arena on Saturday to host No. 14/14 Texas Tech in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Tip-off is set for noon ET on ESPN2.
