Man dies after truck slides on icy I-20 and hits trees
One person died in a weather-related vehicle crash in Kershaw County on Wednesday.
Arther Ted Cumbie Jr. of Darlington died of blunt force trauma and massive head injuries, according to Kershaw County Coroner David West.
The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on I-20 eastbound at mile marker 103. A truck driven by Cumbie left the road and went into the median and hit some trees.
West said a witness said the driver was not speeding, but the truck started sliding and left the road. West also said the accident was due to the ice on I-20 from the winter storm that hit the area, Wednesday.
West said the deceased was headed home from work. He was employed with a company that was working for the Investa Company in Lugoff.
West said Cumbie was wearing a seat belt.
