Post-Christmas clean-up begins today, Columbia sanitation schedule changed, Grinding of the Greens begins

The City of Columbia has adjusted its sanitation schedule for the holidays.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste that would have been collected, normally, on Monday will be collected Tuesday (Dec. 26.)
And Garbage, recycling and yard waste that is normally collected on Tuesdays will be collected on Wednesday this week (Dec. 27.)

Grinding of the Greens
The Richland County Recreation Commission and “Keep the Midlands Beautiful” encourages Midlands residents to recycle their Christmas trees from Friday, December 26, 2017 to Thursday, January 11, 2018 with KMB’s annual Grinding of the Greens program.

The annual Grinding of the Greens program keeps thousands of Christmas trees from ending up in area landfills and provides useful mulch for yards, gardens and public spaces throughout the Midlands. Any live Christmas tree can be dropped off for recycling at one of eight drop off sites, however Keep the Midlands Beautiful asks participants to follow these guidelines:

*Remove all lights, tinsel and ornaments from the tree. Also remove tree from stand.
*Drop off trees only. Wreaths, garland and other greenery are not accepted.
*Remove tree from bag. Also remove any string, wire or ties on the tree.

Free mulch made from the recycled trees will be available to the public at the following two locations on Saturday, January 13 from 8:30 am until the mulch runs out:

Seven Oaks Park (200 Leisure Lane; near the intersection of St. Andrews and Piney Grove Roads)
