Phenom Palmetto Winter Classic, with top high school basketball talent, begins Thursday at Ben Lippen

The Phenom Palmetto Winter Classic high school basketball event will take place Thursday through Saturday (Dec. 28-30) at Ben Lippen School in Columbia.
The teams included are filled with multiple Top 100 prospects and players committed to major college programs. In addition to national powers, local programs including AC Flora, Ben Lippen, Blythewood, and Hammond, are participating.

The elite high school basketball event is slated for the week between Christmas and New Years Eve.

Last year Phenom Hoops held the Winter Classic in Wilmington, NC and it was one of the most talked about events throughout the region. In partnering with Ben Lippen, the City of Columbia was able to bring this national level event to the Midlands area. With the visibility and success of the Bojangles Bash and the Chick-Fil-A Classic, bringing an event with the profile of Phenom’s Palmetto Winter Classic to Columbia only made sense.

The list of teams has been released and it is a star-studded event, with level national talent. Numerous players ranked among the countries Top 150 prospects will be in attendance along with players who are committed to the likes of Providence, East Carolina, Ohio University, UNC-Wilmington and others. In all prospects will be competing who have been offered by the programs you watch on television, including Clemson, NC State, Oregon, Southern Cal, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Florida and many others.

Not only are elite players in this event, but great teams will be playing as well. The competition should be stiff as last season Miller School (VISSA 2A), Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach (SCISA 2A) and Blythewood (SCHSL 5A) each made it to their division’s state championship game. Village Christian (NCISAA 2A) won their second consecutive state championship.
