Richland County man arrested on child pornography charges

Jaylen Deshawn Myers, 18, of Columbia has been arrested on ten charges connected to the exploitation of a minor, according to the office of S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson.

Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Richland County Sheriff’s Department both made arrests. Investigators with the Attorney General’s Office, also a member of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted with the investigation.

Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) which led them to Myers. Investigators state Myers possessed and distributed multiple files of child pornography.

Myers was arrested last Wednesday by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and again on Friday by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
He is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count, in Lexington. He is also charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second degree, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count, in Richland.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
