1 person killed in I-77 crash that closed interstate, Friday afternoon
One person was killed in a crash on I-77 Friday.
The S.C. Highway Patrol reported the time of the wreck as 1:02 p.m. Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said a 1996 Ford pickup truck collided with a 1997 Toyota. The driver of the Toyota was killed. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Jones said the driver of the pickup was traveling north and crossed into the lane of the southbound Toyota, and hit it. The driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seat belt, Jones said. The driver of the pickup was wearing a seat belt.
The collision occurred near Exit 11 near Fort Jackson Boulevard, said Jones.
Columbia Fire personnel reportedly extracted at least one person from a vehicle. All lanes were closed just after 1 p.m. At least one southbound lane has reopened after 2 p.m.
