Gamecock rising sophomore guard Rakym Felder will play for the USA East Coast team.
Felder will travel to Madrid, Spain later this summer to play alongside a group of college all-stars under the tutelage of Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown.
Gamecock’s Head Coach and former USA East Coast head coach Frank Martin spoke highly of Felder and his recent opportunity.
“The opportunity this summer with USA East Coast will be a tremendous experience for Rakym in both basketball and life.” Martin said Tuesday. “He will be spending time learning from a great basketball mind in Larry Brown.”
In his freshman season, Felder averaged 5.6 points and 1.3 assists per game. He also posted nine double figure performances during the season, including a 15-point performance in the Gamecocks’ victory over Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
“I’m blessed to receive an opportunity to travel to Spain and represent the USA East Coast team.” Felder said Tuesday. “Looking forward to represent my country.”
Several former Gamecock players have been members of the squad in some capacity over the past five years. Martin served as the head coach of the team in 2014 and former Gamecock Tyrone Johnson played for the team in 2014. Most recently, Marcus Stroman and the 2016-17 SEC Player of the Year Sindarius Thornwell were members of the team.
The team’s training camp will be held at Columbia University in New York City on Aug. 5 and 6. The team will arrive to Madrid on Aug. 7.
